XRACE Family Event – travel crew

XRACE is a family event for children and parents aged 6-14 that originated in New Zealand. They race together as team, completing have 10 mystery challenges over a course of around 3.5km.

What to expect
For the last few years, XRACE has invited 8 to 10 backpackers to be a part of the crew. Backpackers help out with all our events.

A typical race day includes a wide range of activities. The mornings are spent setting up the race course and site. During the race you will be stationed at one of the ten challenges with a few volunteers that you will be in charge of. After the race, we pack everything up and drive to the next location. We travel as a group (of 8-10) staying in hostels, airbnbs and holiday homes.

XRACE race days can be quite challenging and demanding – including a lot of early morning starts (sometimes as early as 4am) and heavy lifting. We are looking for people who are outgoing, positive and willing to work hard. Most importantly we are looking for people who are easy going and flexible since you will be travelling and working with other travellers from around the world.

We want this to be a fun experience for everyone involved and although race days can be tough, we always celebrate a job well done with a few (many) beers. You’ll also have free time on non-race days, and we strongly encourage the crew to explore some of New Zealand’s amazing sites.

What’s included
All accommodation and travel costs during the season are covered. The main cost to crew is for any tourist activities you would like to do and food – though some food is covered, such as race day food and we buy breakfast stuff for everyone to use like bread, cereals, eggs for the entire season.
