A way of combining hunger-beating and activities in Queenstown is to go on a foodie experience! Here are some food-related activities you can do in Queenstown.

  • Take a tour of the Queenstown wine region either with a tour company or rent a bike and cycle around the Gibbston Valley.
  • Taste some craft beer at Smiths Craft Beer House, Shotover Street.
  • Choose from some local produce at the Remarkable Market at The Red Barn, The Remarkables Park, every Saturday from 9am to 2pm.
  • Do some free fudge tastings at The Remarkable Sweet Shop, 39 Beach Street.
  • Go on a fishing charter on Lake Wakatipu and bring back dinner!

Backpacker Food Deals in Queenstown

Stay at Nomads Queenstown and you are entitled to a free entree/main meal for $3 every night at their partner bar. Loco Cantina, Shotover Street, always has some affordable deals going on like 2-for-1 tacos on Tuesdays (and the tacos are only $5) plus, $5 enchiladas!

Cheap hangover cures in Queenstown

The perfect hangover cure can be found at Red Rock, 48 Camp Street, with a $10 all-day breakfast. Another great hangover option is on the $10 lunch option at Flame, Beach Street, for meat-lovers. Also, before the hangover kicks in, head to Fergbaker, Shotover Street, which is open til late serving a selection of savoury pies for under $5. Lastly, bangers (sausages) and mash is served in the Pig & Whistle for a measly $9.50. Then before you start all over again, have some cheap bar snacks during Fat Badger’s, Camp Street, appetiser happy hour between 3pm-5pm with delights such as $4 chips and aioli, 50c hot wings and more!

Cheap pizzas in Queenstown

Every night from 8-9.30pm, grab yourself a reasonably-sized pizza from the Searle Lane bar, 15 Church Street, in Queenstown for $4. Or if you need a slice of pizza during the day, get a large slice from Slice Pizza, Shotover Street, for just $2! The snack-sized pizzas at Hell, Searle Lane, is only $9.

Street Food in Queenstown

Pick up a Kiwi classic with a $10 fish, chips and soft drink meal deal available at Erik’s Fish & Chips, Earl Street. The Empanada Kitchen on Beach Street sells, well, empanadas for $5.50 each!

Cheap and Healthy lunch options in Queenstown

If you are looking more for cafe food, try Johnny Barrs, Church Street, for their $10 rolls between 4pm – 6pm. A healthier lunch can be found at Hikari, Beach Street, offers large sushi pieces at around $1.70 each making you pretty full by the time you reach $10. Ask at The Exchange cafe, Ballarat Street, about their half salad and juice combo for $10. There are also some healthy options on the Wild Thyme $10 lunch menu in SKYCITY, Beach Street.

Fast Food in Queenstown

There’s fast food in Queenstown too! Pick up a $5 pizza from Domino’s, 19 Shotover Street, or there are plenty of deals under $10 in KFC27 Camp Street. There is also a McDonald’s in the food court of the O’Connells shopping centre. For more fast food, head to Frankton for McDonald’s, 1063 Frankton Road, and Burger King, 1092 Frankton Road. 

Cheap eats tip: keep an eye out for local meal deals in the Queenstown Weekly Bulletin which can be found in most liquor and convenience stores around town.

Lunch deals you Can’t miss in Queenstown

Crazy for Thai food? Choose from the $12 takeaway box menu on offer at @Thai, Church Street. Or pick up a reasonably-priced pita for $15 from Pita Pit, Mall Street. Also down Mall Street, you can get a $15 burrito from Caribe Latin Kitchen. 

Gourmet burgers and pizzas in Queenstown

Gourmet burgers seems to be a thing in Queenstown. If you want to jump on the bandwagon, head to Fergburger, Shotover Street, with a selection of over-sized burgers between $10-$17. Alternatively, there is Devil Burger on Church Street offering more choice in regular and large options in the $10-$19 price range. More gourmet delights can be found at Hamills in The Remarkables Park with their half prices pizza night every Wednesday. With weird and wonderful pizza toppings usually costing around $23 for a medium, you’re bound to pick up a good pizza for around $11.

Dinner Deals in Queenstown

1867, Ballarat Street, might be famous for serving the cheapest beers in town, but their weekday meal deals (usually after 5pm) is a good draw card too, including: Monday’s 20% off all mains, Tuesday’s $15 dinner menu, Wednesday’s $20 steak, fries, salad and drink, Thursday’s chicken, fries, coleslaw and drink, and Friday’s $10 burger and fries. Treat yourself to an Indian feast at The Spice Room, Shotover Street, of curry, rice, naan and popadoms for $20 between 5pm-7pm.
