With a garden of various hammocks and picnic benches to relax on, a homely lounge and friendly atmosphere, Tasman Bay Backpackers is definitely a top contender for this listicle. This hostel is beautifully decorated with murals and Middle-earth themes. Borrow a free cruiser bike, enjoy the Nelson sun in the hammocks of the spacious courtyard. You don’t even have to walk very far to get a beer with the hostel’s bar being just downstairs. And, before we forget, free waffles for breakfast!!

The owner of the hostel is also the manager, so expect a host paying attention to the hostel. This certainly reflects in the cleanliness. A social place to be, as it is always busy with other backpackers.
